With many manufacturers already announcing their range of ICS tablets, Coby is somewhat late to the party. But that doesn’t matter now; five devices have been announced, spanning the range of screen sizes (7, 8, 9, 9.7 and 10 inch). Those 5 Android Ice Cream Sandwich Tablets are:
- Coby MID7042 ( 7-Inch Android ICS Tablet )
- Coby MID8042 ( 8-Inch Android ICS Tablet )
- Coby MID9042 ( 9-Inch Android ICS Tablet )
- Coby MID9742 ( 9.7-Inch Android ICS Tablet )
- Coby MID1042 ( 10-Inch Android ICS Tablet )
And under the hood of all five models consists of a 1Ghz Cortex 8 processor and 1GB of RAM. This ensures it will run Ice Cream Sandwich relativity well but is certainly no match for tablets like the Asus Transformer Prime. They also lack 3G connectivity.
Screens don’t just vary with size; the aspect ratio will also vary on model; the MID8043 and 9742 have a 4:3 ratio, akin to the iPad whereas the MID7042, 9042 and the 1042 haven’t been specified, suggesting that they will be 16:9 or 16:10.
Pricing and release date have yet to be confirmed, although we can expect the price to be quite cheap, given the modest specifications and Cobys previous product lines being quite cheap. However, if you actually want a tablet with such specifications in 2012 when much better is available has yet to be seen. It might compete against tablets like the Kindle Fire instead.
