There has been a lot of news lately from CyanogenMod but most of it tends to be the new Android 4.0 based CyanogenMod 9; that isn’t to say, though, that the Android Gingerbread based CyanogenMod 7 is being neglected by developers. The CyanogenMod team has released a new CyanogenMod 7 nightly build for some LG smartphones coming off the heel of a similar release for Sony Ericsson devices last week. The latest release is for the LG Optimus Black, Optimus Hub, Optimus Pro, Optiumus 3D and the LG Thrill.
If you aren’t aware, a ‘nightly’ release is a build for software that is updated on a constant basis so that developers can add features and changes based on feedback from users each release. They are initially not as stable as beta releases, or maybe even alpha releases, but are quickly updated to allow drastically improved enhancements to the build that are custom tailored to fit the collective public that are using the build. Users who download nightly builds are the first that get to try out new features and apps and are guinea pigs for a new software release. This is great news for many LG users who were wanting CM7 as CyanogenMod was only available for the Optimus 2X and G2X previously.
The new nightly build is available here from the CyanogenMod 7 repository and if you choose not to be part of the nightly process you can most likely expect alpha and beta releases for the LG phones over the next weeks.
It may be a few months before the Ice Cream Sandwich based CyanogenMod 9 reaches LG devices, but it can only be assumed the CyanogenMod developers have plans to incorporate those devices in the newest CM release as well when CyanogenMod 9 receives its official release.
