Do you own a HTC Desire Z/T-Mobile G2? Now you can get a upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, provided you are comfortable with installing ROM’s. At the moment you shouldn’t upgrade just because – it is a new release and will likely have some glitches/bugs. Anyway, provided you are okay with that, lets get started!
What you need
A HTC Desire Z/T-Mobile G2 charged to at least 50% to prevent any problems during update. It must also be rooted (obviously). Finally, ensure that USB Debugging is enabled (Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB Debugging)
Instructions
- Download the ICS ROM here.
- Connect your phone to the computer.
- Copy the ROM you downloaded in step 1 over to your SD card.
- If you haven’t got it already, get the ROM Manager app for your phone. Android Market Link.
- Open the ROM manager application.
- I would recommend you make a back-up via the ROM Manager app.
- Now, install the ROM via the ROM manager. To do this simply tap the Install ROM from SD Card and then browse to the ROM you copied to your SD card back in step 3.
- Wait for the Firmware to update.
- Then, press go back and reboot your system.
- Now your phone should be updated!
Enjoy Ice Cream Sandwich on your HTC Desire Z!

sorry if this is a stupid question but would this work on the regular htc desire cdma? (htc bravoc).
should do
Hi Josh!
No, sadly it won’t work – they’re different phones with different specifications and so require their own ROM’s. I did find a ICS port for the HTC Desire, but it doesn’t seem to be fit for normal usage – a lot of things simply don’t work and I don’t know if it even supports the CDMA model. The port is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?s=54a1a3701bc94953e77d05019415312c&t=1313577
Thanks!

Any source on this one? What works on this ROM and what doesn’t work?
Hi Kees,
The ROM release thread is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1309854. With regards what works, Thomas summed it up quite well; not a lot as it is a SDK emulator port. The touchscreen doesn’t work correctly for starters, making it unusable day-to-day.
Thanks,
Matt Tennison
Hi Matt,
I think this article is highly misleading and seemingly nothing more than bait. Not with a single word have you mentioned that this is a port of the sdk emulator, ports like these – as far as I know – never will get into a stable state which would qualify them as a daily driver for any phone.
Your comment concerning this being an early release which “might” have some bugs and glitches doesn’t even come close to describing the state of this. There really isn’t a whole lot more to do with this than watching it boot and be amazed by the lock screen.
Another aspect of this article that rubbed me the wrong way is that there is no mentioning of the source for this. You should give credit where credit is due.
To anybody who thinks about flashing this: Just don’t bother, there isn’t any real fun to be had with this.
Best regards
Hi Thomas,
Sorry – I didn’t check in detail regarding the ROM. I now see how poor the usability of this ROM and at the time was in a rush to write this post. I would change this post to reflect this but I can’t – I’ll send a email to the blog administrator. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
And sorry about skipping the credit; again I can’t change the post but the XDA-Developers forum thread regarding this ROM can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1309854.
Thanks,
Matt Tennison
Hi Matt,
I can understand how this could have happened what with all the excitement about ics and all. Just glad that this is being worked out.
Best regards,
thomas
Hi, I have a Bell desire Z and HTC just unlocked the bootloader, I’m now S-OFF’ any idea on how to root with firmwar 2.42.666.8 and get root access (in order to flash etc)
I just installed this ROM before reading the comments only to find that the touchscreen doesn’t work. Now I have to restore to my previous ROM. That was pointless.
Is there a place to get ICS for HTC Desire Z that actually works?
Hey is there a link that stil works for ics plz it would be help full ty anyway
Try browsing the XDA Developer Forums – I had a look and couldn’t find any ICS ROM’s that worked perfectly, but it’s a whole lot better than when I originally posted this article. The link to XDA Developers (for your phone) is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=758
hey thanks it wil help
