How To Install Android 4.0.3 ICS Beta 3 Firmware On Samsung Galaxy GIO S5660

How To Install Android 4.0.3 ICS Beta 3 Firmware On Samsung Galaxy GIO S5660

Samsung Galaxy GIO S5660 owners can now take advantage of the Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich OS on their Samsung Galaxy GIO S5660 . Originally, they were deployed with Android 2.2 “Froyo” and upgraded to Android 2.3 “Gingerbread” OS. Although the Ice Cream Sandwich update is available, it is an unofficial 3rd party customized beta 3 versions which is not completely refined. This leaves a margin for errors, glitches and the like.

Flash your Samsung GIO S5660 at your own risk. By following the method provided here, you take full responsibility of any damages to your phone, data, external SD card memory, etc. and will not hold Android Digit liable for your actions. Make sure to backup your personal data, contacts and other information before attempting to flash your phone as you will be wiping the phone clean during the process.

Step 1 – You will need to download the Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich ZIP package from here.

Step 2 – Connect your phone to your computer or use a memory card reader to copy the ZIP file to the external SD storage at the root directory.  If you removed the memory card to use a card reader it will need to be placed back into the phone before continuing.

Step 3 – You will then need to turn off the phone and reboot into recovery mode. Press the center button and the power button simultaneously to take the recovery mode boot option instead.

Step 4 – When recovery mode has booted up, choose the ZIP installation file from the root directory of your card. Selecting the file will return you to the recovery mode screen and the update process will begin. It can take as long as 20 minutes to complete the update process.

Step 5 – Once the update process is complete, you will need to select “wipe data/factory reset” in the recovery mode options then choose the “wipe cache partition option.

Step 6 – Choose the “go back” selection and complete the process with “reboot system now”. The Samsung GIO S5660 should reboot and Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich will be installed.

Now you can enjoy Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich on your Samsung Galaxy GIO S5660.

It works.
But it is still a beta.
So do not expect a working rom.
Most of the times it worked, but it also blocked sometimes my complete phone, so that I had to start all over again.
Always have a backup ready, in case you want to go back to the old os.

Hey guys.. I have found out that installing ICS to Gio is not as simple as stated here. The file system is not elaborated here. Before you can update to Gio, your file system must also be updated from rfs to ext4. You can do this by flashing a cyanogen mod 7 clockwork mod recovery. It is from this recovery mode where you have to flash the CM9 (the latest is BETA 6).
That’s it, we are stuck on Android screen because it cannot mount the file system of our internal SD.. So update your recovery mode to CM7 before having CM9.

I hope this works..

As of me, being a noob at this kind of stuff, I would like to point out that ‘ClockworkMod Recovery’ is required to be able to correctly install this firmware :P
