HTC Announces First Batch Of Smartphones To Receive Ice Cream Sandwich Update

Earlier this week, HTC issued a statement regarding new details for its devices to receive the much anticipated Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The announcement stated that many of the phones will not be able to upgrade to the latest version of Android until 2012.

On their Facebook page note, HTC announced that the HTC Vivid, one of AT&T’s first 4G LTE phones, is ready for the Android upgrade. Other devices that will be able to receive the ICS upgrade include the HTC Amaze 4G, HTC Sensation (as well as it’s variants the Sensation Xl and Sensation XE), both the HTC EVO 3D and Design 4G, and the HTC Rezound.

Here are list of device which will get ICS update in early 2012:

  • HTC Sensation
  • HTC Sensation XL
  • HTC Sensation XE
  • HTC Rezound
  • HTC EVO 3D
  • HTC EVO Design 4G
  • HTC Amaze 4G

Even though these devices will be ready to have the upgrade, it might not be available until next year due to the timeline of Google’s official release of Android 4.0. Even though HTC will have these devices ready for the 4.0 upgrade, ultimately the release date will be a decision made by the devices’ individual carriers.

This first wave of device announcements will not be the only HTC products that will receive the upgrade. In the announcement, HTC also stated that the company would continue to look over their current range of products to determine which devices will best be suited for device upgrades.

It is still unconfirmed whether or not HTC will have either of their two tablets—the HTC Jetstream and HTC Flyer—ready for upgrades to Ice Cream Sandwich, which is designed to work on both phones and tablets, as early as their smartphones.
