Samsung Galaxy S II, Galaxy Note And Tab Will Get Ice Cream Sandwich Update In 2012

This is great news for all Galaxy S II, Note and Tab owners – the Italian Samsung Headquaters recently revealed on their blog that the new OS, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will be coming you those three devices. Let’s just hope it’s not only those three!

The updates are supposed to begin some time in 2012 – no exact date was given for now. Even tho they were only talking about Italy, we are pretty sure that Samsung is planning a world-wide update as well, because it would make absolutely no sense to have the Android 4.0 update only in Italy. Following Android devices will get Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Update.

Samsung devices to get Ice Cream Sandwich Update :

  • Samsung Galaxy SII
  • Samsung Galaxy Note
  • Samsung Galaxy tab 10.1
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus

It would be even better if they decided to upgrade the Galaxy S model as well – it’s not that old, and actually, being an owner of one of those I feel very sad that I am going to miss the Ice Cream Sandwich update.

Basically all of Samsung’s Android phones (with the notable exception of the Galaxy Nexus) use Samsung’s custom TouchWiz UI, which will need to be updated to support Ice Cream Sandwich. This is one of the main reason that it’s taking Samsung so much time to update – in contrast, Motorola is supposed to roll out some Ice Cream Sandwich devices just six weeks after the release – so with one week already gone from the memorable unveiling of the Galaxy Nexus and Android 4.0 in Hong Kong, the possible update to Ice Cream Sandwich by Motorola is just 5 weeks away – let’s hope that’s true.

We at Android Digit reviewed both the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and the new Samsung Galaxy Nexus phone – so be sure to check out those articles!
