Sony continues to trek on as they introduce more Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich updates with the latest news coming in that they will have a spring release for both the Tablet S as well as the Tablet P sometime toward the end of April.
According to the manufacturer, the upgrade that will be released next month won’t just be to bring the OS up to speed with the latest version of Android but it will also include a large amount of upgrades to their camera software and functionality. The new features that will be available for tablet photographers will be the ability to use the camera from the lock screen, take panoramic pictures (something that Sony has been known for with their NEX camera line), a new gallery application that will allow for quick and easy photo editing, plus the ability to watch recorded programs on certain Sony-branded Blu-Ray recorders—an app will have to be downloaded for this feature.
Speaking of apps, the upgrade will bring in a new set of miniature applications as well. With the Sony Small Apps, you will be able to open up small versions of applications on top of other apps (for example, if you have a restaurant menu app open, you will be able to launch a miniature calculator on top of that app and you can tally your bill without switching between apps). While this Small Apps may only work for a limited amount of programs, Sony did show that it will work for the calculator, Google Maps, remote control, YouTube, and browser windows.
In addition to the software upgrade announcements, Sony also dropped the news that the company will also be releasing the Tablet P in a Wi-Fi only version that is set to hit shelves on April 21st for around $600. The tablet will be the same for the most part but come in a little cheaper because it will not have any 3G radio connectivity. With the launch of the new version of the tablet, Sony also said that they will be releasing colored front and back panels to customize your Tablet P; they will be available in blue, pink and gold and come priced at $60 each.
