With the upcoming holiday season, many new devices have been released to grab the attention of shoppers. Both releasing in November, two of the hottest devices that are both slated for the LTE network are the Motorola Droid RAZR and the HTC Rezound which leave buyers with one question: which is better?
Display :
Both devices sport a large 4.3 inch screen with the RAZR having a Super AMOLED display against the Rezound’s S-LCD. While Super AMOLED may prove to have a brighter and more vibrant appeal, the deciding factor for me comes down to resolution. The RAZR has qHD resolution of only 540 x 960 while the Rezound features beautiful 720p HD at 720 x 1280.
Round winner: HTC Rezound
Design :
When it comes to size, it’s hard to imagine any phone beating the RAZR. Measuring in at only 7.1 mm it is half the width of the HTC Rezound. Not only is it thinner, it also weighs 37g less than the Rezound as well, features an aluminum body, and has a Kevlar backing. If you’re going for the most thin, sleek, durable device then the Motorola device is easily the best way to go.
Round winner: Droid RAZR
Software :
When it comes to software, the phones are basically identical. The HTC Rezound will feature Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread while the Droid RAZR will have a slight upgrade and use Android Gingerbread 2.3.5—both carrying custom modifications to the user interface. However, both devices have been confirmed to receive the latest version of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich after they are released; so–as far as operating systems go–the devices are basically deadlocked.
Round winner: None
Hardware and Storage :
Both devices are packed full of power when it comes to the hardware department. Inside both devices you will find 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage (with the ability to upgrade to 32 GB via MicroSD). However, what separates these devices is the processor. In the HTC Rezound you will find a 1.5 GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor while the RAZR is powered by a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor. Thus, it means the Rezound will easily be able to run apps quicker than the RAZR.
Round winner: HTC Rezound
Battery Life :
For the battery life, the Droid RAZR features a larger battery capacity than the HTC Rezound. Normally, this would mean that the RAZR will last longer without a charge than the Rezound but a wide variety of factors (apps running, CPU clock speed, etc) can make significant differences in actual usage scenarios vs what’s on paper. For theoretical purposes.
Round winner: Droid RAZR
Multimedia capability :
One of the key features to the HTC Rezound is the inclusion of the Beats Audio technology and Beats earbuds. With this advanced audio technology, the RAZR doesn’t stand much of a chance in producing the high-quality audio that its competitor does.
The Rezound is also quite impressive when it comes to photos and video. While both devices feature an 8 megapixel rear-facing camera capable of 1080p high definition video capture, the RAZR falls flat with its 1.3 megapixel front-facing lens compared to the 2 megapixel front-facing camera of the Rezound.
Round winner: HTC Rezound
Pricing Details :
Both LTE capable devices are slated to be released for $300 with a two-year contract, so there is not much to differentiate them here.
Round winner: None
Conclusion :
As you can see, these two devices are nearly identical in a lot of aspects. However, some key differences are visible when you get down to it. The RAZR clearly has the advantage if you’re going for an aesthetic choice for your device, as well as having a longer battery life. However, when it comes down to pure functionality, the HTC Rezound edges out the Motorola device.
In the end, I’m much more for performance than looks so I would have to choose the HTC Rezound myself. Also check out our specs comparison article: Specs Comparison: Galaxy Nexus Vs DROID RAZR Vs HTC Rezound
